P6 poems (P5 2019-2020)

3rd Dec 2020

Last year our P5s along with Mrs Sealey and local poet Linda McKenna enjoyed a series of lessons as part of the Poetry in Motion project. The project was sponsored by the Arts Council. Linda came along and shared her expertise with the children and the results were amazing. A whole class poem - Greta the Great really caught the children's imagination. Every child then composed their own poem and it was sent off for consideration to be published in a book, "Seen & Heard." We are so proud of the children who had their poems published and we know you'll really enjoy their poems. Well done to Linda and Mrs Sealey, P5 2019-2020 and especially Cormac, Aoife, Dylan, Eoghan and Aodhán.

Greta the Great

She is our hero, our warrior queen,

With plaits of brown hair

Special powers

And a strong, brave voice.

She is fighting for the penguins,

The polar bears and the whales.

Fighting for the turtles,

The seals and the seas.

With a placard for a sword,

Her weapon is her heart.

Her spear is a microphone,

Her arrow is her voice.

With armour of yellow,

Her shield is a banner that no one can break.

Her chariot is a sailboat powered by the sun

Pulled by white sea horses,

With dolphins at her side.

We will be her followers,

Making the world a better place,

Remembering the forests,

Emptying the seas of litter,

Slowing down the waste,

Spearing the pollution,

Walking where we can.

It is hard to be a warrior Queen,

Difficult to be brave when you’re young

She is our hero

Our earth depends on Greta and her followers,

Like us!
