P6 & P7 Welcome to Christmas

19th Dec 2025

Primary 6 & Primary 7 rounded off the Christmas countdown in St Patrick's with a lovely service in the Church. Fr Aidan and Deacon Jackie welcomed a large crowd and they enjoyed hearing the Christmas story, read by the children. In between everyone sang carols and the choir from St Joseph's Ballycruttle gave a beautiful rendition of 'O Come All Ye Faithful.'

All of the children from these classes received a special blessed candle to be lit on Christmas Eve at home.

In Ireland long ago, particularly in Munster, there was a tradition of setting a lighted candle in the front window of your home on Christmas Eve. It would help light the way for Mary and Joseph on their way to find the stable in Bethlehem. The candle also signalled Christmas had finally arrived and the wait of Advent was over.
