Maths Week Magic at St Patrick’s – A Definite YAY!

17th Oct 2025

This week, the halls of St Patrick’s were buzzing with excitement as we celebrated all things mathematical — and the verdict from our Friday assembly was loud and clear: Maths is a definite YAY!

Thanks to Lucia’s eye-catching poster (Yay!) we had a week packed with fun activities, exploring the magic of numbers in creative and clever ways. From counting and sorting to solving real-life problems and even using maths tricks to make a bit of pocket money from their parents, the craic was mighty.

We discovered how maths is all around us — especially on the road from Saintfield to Saul in a Hyundai Tucson (thanks to Miss Maguire!). There were parallel lines, square based pyramids, bargains in Spar, road signs with mileage and lots more. At Friday’s assembly, each class had a chance to win a prize by counting pumpkins. It was a close call, with a tie between Lúcás in P7 and Willow in P1. The only fair way to settle it? A round of Mr McGrath’s famous Scissors, Paper, Rock!

Willow emerged victorious and proudly claimed the prize for P1, but Lúcás didn’t leave empty-handed — his fantastic sportsmanship earned P7 a prize next week!

It’s been a week full of learning, laughter, and ‘the craic’ — proving once again that maths isn’t just about numbers, it’s about curiosity, creativity, and community.

Maths Week in St Patrick's was certainly not 6 7! P2s know what we mean!
