Grandparents Assembly
25th Jan 2024
We were overwhelmed with the crowd who came along to celebrate Grandparents Day with us at our special assembly on Wednesday. As part of Catholic Schools Week, we have a theme for each day and our favourite is always Grandparents assembly on the Wednesday.
We listened to some readings and prayers from the children and then we heard some children's special thoughts about granny or granda. It perhaps wasn't surprising that most of them involved sweets of some sort!
During Catholic Schools Week, the reading below is one we should take a moment to consider.
A Reading from the letter of St Paul to the Philippians.
I thank God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart… For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the compassion of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and insight to help you to determine what is best, so that on the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.

The Word of the Lord.
St Paul’s letter shows us that we live great lives when we are being and doing our best. He shows us how to be grateful for the little things and to be joyful in sharing love with one another. Our Grandparents and parents are a good example of how to live our lives well, as they often give up their own needs to look after us. Grandparents show us how to be a family together in our homes and in our school.
