Easter Raffle Delivers Joy, Craic and One Legendary Teaspoon

1st Apr 2026

Our Easter Raffle in aid of the Lenten Appeal is one of the true highlights of the year in our school. The thrill of holding a ticket with your name on it — knowing it could be the one pulled from the wheel — fills the hall with a buzz that can only be described as pure Easter joy. With glorious hampers of chocolate and goodies on display, the hall becomes a sea of excited faces, laughter and craic as everyone waits for their chance to win.

The event includes two special “draws.” First is our school-only raffle, where every pupil and staff member’s name is added as a thank you for their incredible fundraising throughout the Lenten season. This is followed by the main raffle, where the big prizes — kindly donated by our families — find their lucky new homes.

This year, the random wheel held an impressive 212 names. First out was Miss Appleyard, who has been working with P1 and P2 during her studies. She was delighted with her win and approached the prize table with a smile — unaware of the quiet legend already forming around one particular item. She selected the luscious chocolate hamper donated by Mrs McGrath, much to the delight of the hall… and the continued suspense around that spoon.

Then the wheel spun once more.

Next out was Charlie in P4. In front of him: a mountain of chocolate eggs, beautiful hampers, colourful baskets and a dazzling spread of prizes gathered by Mr McGrath. But Charlie’s mind was already made up. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and lifted the prize of prizes:

The magnificent solid stainless‑steel teaspoon!

The room erupted. The teaspoon — humble in shape, mighty in reputation — had found its champion. The legend was sealed, and the hall was alive with laughter, cheers and the kind of craic that makes this event so special.

The Legend of the Teaspoon

Some say it sparkled beneath the hall lights. Others believe it possessed an ancient glow known only to true connoisseurs of cutlery. Whatever the truth, the now‑famous stainless‑steel teaspoon captured the imagination of the entire school. Whispered about, pointed at, and admired from afar, it became the surprise star of the raffle — and Charlie’s unforgettable choice ensures its place in school folklore for years to come. We're not jealous Charlie!

Thank You to Our Donors

We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community once again. Thank you to Aoife and Niamh's granda James for his donation of a luscious hamper prize, to Maisie and Ellie's mum Emma for her super Easter hamper, to Miss Murphy's mum for donating two lovely Easter baskets, to Eddie and Emily's mum Tracey for the mountains of eggs, and to everyone who contributed prizes and bought tickets to make our raffle such a joyful success.

Thanks to the kindness, enthusiasm and community spirit of everyone involved, we are delighted to announce that this year’s Easter Raffle raised an outstanding £4,477.35 for our Lenten Appeal — a truly incredible achievement.

Maith sibh everyone!
