Catholic Schools Week Mass

22nd Jan 2026
We gathered in the church on Wednesday past with our families to celebrate Mass for Catholic Schools Week. It was Grandparents day and Fr Aidan highlighted the importance of our grandparents, parents and all who care for us. The children read the story of David and Goliath that highlighted the need for faith and the theme of this year's Catholic School's Week - Ordinary Lives - Called to Holiness.

Lots of families came back to the school hall and we enjoyed some craic with the children. A lovely morning in St Patrick's. It was especially great to see Amelia and Matthew's granda after his recent illness - well on the road to recovery thank goodness.

Our prayers at the end of Mass were about being holy and perhaps you might like to include them in your daily prayer at home:

St. Carlo Acutis said, "To always be close to Jesus, that’s my life plan."

Lord Jesus, help us to remember that holiness is not about doing big things, but about loving You in the small things every day. Like St. Carlo, may we keep You at the centre of our lives - in school, at home, and in our friendships. Amen.

Saints Louis & Zélie Martin, the parents of St Thérèse of Lisieux said, "Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be." Lord, help us like this first married couple to become saints, to live our lives with love and trust in You. May our parents and grandparents, guide our families in faith and kindness, and find holiness in the simple duties of each day. Amen.

Saints Joachim & Anne taught Mary to love God with all her heart. On Grandparents’ Day Lord, we thank You for the grandparents of Jesus, our grandparents and all who guide us in faith. May their example inspire us to live holy lives in simple ways—through prayer, kindness, and love. Help us, like them, to see that every day is a chance to grow closer to You. Amen.
