School Council
School Council 2025-2026
Elections for representatives on St Patrick’s School Council will be on Friday 10th October 2025.
There will be a minimum of 10 elected representatives on the council.
Candidates will seek nominations and then produce manifestos to persuade their peers to vote for them. An election is held to determine the final 10 councillors. As P1-P3 will not have any representation on the council, the P6 class reps will have responsibility for ensuring these younger classes are consulted before each meeting. (This may be extended).
Once elected, the council will decide upon who will hold the various roles on the council. These will be as follows:
Chairperson
Vice-Chairperson
Secretary
Treasurer
(This will be voted on at the first meeting of Council by all elected representatives.)
The School Council is made up of members from each class P4-P7. This group of children will meet at least once every half term and at these meetings they will have the opportunity to discuss and implement ideas that could help improve our school. These ideas could be problems that need to be resolved or new suggestions. Members of the School Council will be responsible for implementing the ideas discussed at the meetings and:
- Help any visitors to the school.
- Act as representatives for the school at important events.
- Identify what classes think about various issues and share this at meetings.
- Help with improving parts of the school.
- Help organise events.
- Decide on action points for improvements.
Nomination papers can be requested via class teacher. Once completed, candidates will receive a manifesto form that must be completed and these will be read out to their class peers from Monday 21st October, leading up to Election Day. Candidates may also display election posters in school hall or distribute their own campaign materials amongst their class before polling day.
The ballot box will be placed in the school hall on Election Day, along with polling booths for the secret ballot to take place. Pupils in P4 & P5 may vote for one female and one male representative. Pupils in P6 & P7 may vote for two female and two male representatives. Votes are cast on ballot papers specific for each class and counted by the polling officer Mrs Cope. Staff in each class also receive a vote in their own class except those in P1, P2 & P3 who vote in the P7 election.
Good luck to all the prospective candidates!
